Career Notes:
As Dot Bunnell, she started running in second grade and has rarely stopped since. She was a state champion in the 400 meters and 800 meters in high school, and an all-conference 800m runner in college at University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. But after struggling to break 2:09:00 she decided to move on to longer distances. In 2005 she showed solid results in the half marathon distance, winning the Mercedes Half Marathon in Birmingham, AL, and finishing second at the Green Bay Half Marathon (which she had won a year earlier). After finishing ninth at the U.S. 20K Championships, she was rewarded with a trip to the 2001 World Half Marathon Championships in Edmonton where she finished 48th. In 2006 she achieved her big goal of the year when she qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials–Women's Marathon in her debut at the distance at Chicago, clocking a 2:43:27. In January 2007 she posted a new personal best in the half marathon when she was second at the Walt Disney Half Marathon in 1:18:22.

Personal Notes:
McMahan was born in Des Moines, IA, but grew up in Wisconsin with four brothers and four sisters. She attended University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where she received her bachelor’s of science in biology in 1999. She joined the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project in the summer of 2005, and works as a high school math and science tutor in Michigan. McMahan married her husband Tim in Hawaii in October 2000.
